Dr. Red Alinsod was, at one point, a well-respected military doctor affectionately called the Combat Gynecologist by his colleagues as George Air Force Base in California and Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. Now, he’s being called the defendant in a lawsuit brought upon him by one of his patients. Apparently, Dr. Alinsod went above and beyond the call of duty during 47-year-old Ingrid Paulicivic’s hysterectomy, because Dr. Alinsod apparently branded “Ingrid” on the woman’s uterus after he removed it.
According to Paulicivic’s attorney, Devan Mullins, Paulicivic and her husband were horrified by the discovery of her labeled uterus, which was apparently written on with a cauterizing tool in the hours after the surgery. The pair discovered the malpractice when looking at surgery photos taken by someone at the office. “Alinsod hesitated to give them the photos,” said Mullins, which clued the couple in that something might be wrong. Upon finding the markings on the removed uterus, “They reacted like anyone would react – ‘Oh my God, I cannot believe this happened.’
Is it weird that he went to the trouble of tattooing Ingrid’s name in inch-high letters on her uterus? Yes, but maybe there’s some reason why he did that, like he needed to check the uterus for cancer or something and wanted to make sure the results got back to the right person?
