I love 3D. I know it’s lame, and I hate paying extra for those glasses and the surcharge for renting the equipment needed to project it, but when it’s done in the proper spirit and not just tacked-on or in an exploitative sense, it can be a lot of fun. That’s why I’m generally pro-3D movies, but I’m not so sold on home video. However, if Toshiba can bring their no-glasses-needed 3D television sets to America, they might have a winner.
Let’s face it, if you watch something in 3D with those glasses on, you look like a serious nerd. Even the President of the United States looks like Urkel with those things on, and he’s got decent taste in decor. Of course, the prices are going to have to come way down (the 12-inch model costs $1430!), but if they can make it cheap enough, I’m on board.
Toshiba will be showing off their 12, 20, and prototype 56-inch 3D televisions at Ceatac in Japan, with an eye towards a December launch date.
