I’m a Verizon customer. I’m actually mostly happy with their service, as I like the better reception than I used to get with my old service, but their data plans leave something to be desired. Specifically, I’m never sure what I do on my phone that’s going to get me a data charge, and what’s going to be something I can assess for free. Hence, I’ve finally gotten the data turned off for my phone, but I’ve spent quite a bit on random data charges. Hopefully, that makes me one of Verizon’s 15 million customers that’s getting a data plan charge refund.
Apparently, the issue has primarily involved minor exchanges by built-in software or programs opening the web, which should not result in charges. “We have addressed these issues to avoid unintended data charges in the future,” said Verizon spokeswoman Mary Coyne. “Our goal is to maintain our customers’ trust and ensure they receive the best experience possible.”
Current customers can expect refunds applied to their October or November bills. Former customers can expect a check in the mail. The value of most refunds should be between $2 and $6.
