Winston Churchill has won just about every honor a person can win. He’s a knight, he’s a decorated veteran, he’s Britain’s greatest leader of the modern era, and he’s one of history’s great inspirations. Now he’s got another award to put in his posthumous collection of honors: Winston Churchill has a hit single with the RAF Central Band.
The song, “Reach for the Skies,” is a recording in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force’s Central Band. It’s a recording of WWII-era marching music combined with the greatest of Churchill’s speeches during the second World War. The recording entered the pop charts at number four, which is incredible for a chain-smoking old white politician who has been dead for 45 years or so.
