If things seem to be getting a little freakier than usual on Facebook, don’t worry. Your mom/sister/whoever hasn’t gone off the deep end, and your girlfriend isn’t giving you a hint. Those Facebook status updates, where women have been posting “I like it on” and then adding a location like, “the couch” or “the living room floor” isn’t anything ribald. Women are just saying where they like their purse, and it’s all for a good cause: raising breast cancer awareness via creating a new meme.
The meme is an off-shoot of the Facebook bra color status updates that took Facebook by storm last year. “The purpose (of the bra color meme) was to increase awareness of October Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a tremendous success and we had men wondering for days what was with the colors and it made it to the news,” reads the anonymous message that kicked off another meme. “This year’s game has to do with your handbag/purse, where we put our handbag the moment we get home for example ‘I like it on the couch…'”
It’s just the lastest in a long tradition of (in this case, implied) sexy stunts to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. It beats donning another awareness bracelet, doesn’t it?
