The old saying about man biting dog is true. Roderick Lewis, upon seeing West Haven, Connecticut, police officer Scott Bloom on Elm Street, greeted the officer with a shout of, “I need a bag of dust,” meaning angel dust or PCP. As we all know, cops don’t usually carry around drugs. When Officer Bloom went to see to Lewis, the 23-year-old went for his waistband. In the scuffle, Officer Bloom got punched in the face and went down. That’s when Bloom’s partner, a police dog named Onyx, got involved. The dog bit Lewis’ leg. Lewis, in response, bit the police dog’s side. Police actually had to pull Lewis off the dog, as Lewis wouldn’t unclench his teeth from the dog’s side.
That’s pretty incredible that the dog let go before the person let go, but I’ve always said that disabling a police dog is pretty simple, if you’re not afraid to give up one of your arms in the process. Obviously, the doped-up Lewis had no problems letting the dog gnaw on his leg in exchange for getting a chance to gnaw on the dog in return.
