All their lives, Mark and Scott Kelly have been together. After all, the two men grew up together as twin brothers in West Orange, New Jersey, so they’ve seen a lot of one another over the years. Even when they seemed to take divergent paths, they ended up back together. The twins are both Captains in the United States Navy, they both work for NASA, and next year, they will be the only twins in space.
Scott Kelly blasted off for the International Space Station last week in a Russian Soyuz capsule. Mark Kelly will be leading the mission to deliver supplies to the ISS in February 2011. The two brothers will be in space together for a grand total of eight days. Mark is the older of the two, by six minutes, while Scott was the first of the Kelly family to enter orbit. Hopefully, at age 46, their days of sibling fist-fights are over, as nobody wants to watch a zero-gravity throw-down.
