It’s the kind of thing that happens in movies, not real life. During a Qatar Airways flight from Manila, Philippines, to Doha, Quatar, there was a horrifying accident. The pilot of Qatar Airways Flight QR645 died as a result of a heart attack during the flight. The terrible event worked out to only mild discomfort for the passengers as the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, in order to change crews.
Impressively enough, two hours after the heart attack, the plane was back in flight with a new flight crew. In the movies, the end result of a pilot injury is, of course, the plane being thrown into peril. Everyone screams, the flight crew panics, and someone without training (like a stewardess or a random passenger) has to take control of the airplane and land it carefully, but perfectly, in front of waiting emergency crews.
As we’ve seen in real life, things are much more boring when a pilot dies in flight. That’s probably a good thing, especially for the people on Qatar Airways. They didn’t even have to unload the plane’s luggage, they just changed out personnel!
