The long-running, long-festering flirtation between Verizon and Apple seems as though it is entering the next phase, as the talking has started to cease and the action is starting to happen. Verizon is getting its first Apple product, but it’s not the iPhone (that won’t be until 2011); Verizon is actually going to start carrying and selling the Apple iPad. It’s not carrying the version you might think, though.
Verizon, one of the nation’s largest 3G cell phone networks, isn’t actually selling the iPad 3G. Instead, Verizon is selling the Wi-Fi-only iPad with its mobile Wi-Fi device, which basically means that anywhere you have 3G, you’ll have WiFi service. Basically, it’s the same thing as selling 3G, but it allows Verizon to make a little more in monthly data subscription fees. Verizon’s iPads will cost $630 for the 16-gigabyte model, $730 for the 32-gigabyte model, and $830 for the 64-gigabyte model. The data plan offered will reportedly be $20/month for up to 1GB of data used.
