It seems as though Toyota can do nothing right these days. Since becoming the world’s largest car manufacturer, the company has had to recall more vehicles and pay more fines than any automaker ever. Fresh off a 2009-10 model year in which Toyota had to recall nearly 10 million vehicles and even suspend car sales, the company’s quality woes show no signs of slowing down. Toyota just announced they are recalling 1.5 million vehicles due to a flaw in the master cylinder that leads to brake problems.
The company describes the problem as “a small amount of the brake fluid could slowly leak from the brake master cylinder.” This kicks on the brake warning light and, eventually, “the driver will begin to notice a spongy or soft brake pedal feel and braking performance may gradually decline” if you don’t put more brake fluid in. The models being recalled by Toyota are the 2005 and 2006 Avalon, the 2004-2006 non-hybrid Highlander, the Lexus RX330, and the 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350.
This is what happens when you brag about avoiding recalls that lead to deaths, Toyota.
