A worker for the Northumberland County Council was at Tweedmouth Cemetery in Berwick for reasons unknown. Whatever her excuse for being there, she ticked off the wrong gruesome twosome. Apparently, two gravediggers the woman was fighting with got so fed up with her that they hit her on the head with a shovel. When the unconscious woman came to, she discovered she’d been dumped into an open grave. Cue the freaked-out call for help.
“What we’ve heard is shocking,” said a source close to Tweedmouth Cemetery, where the attack is alleged to have taken place. I heard there had been some sort of argument with the gravediggers but I don’t know what it’s about. I’m glad the woman was OK, but I can understand why she was so shaken. It must have been a horrible feeling being stuck in that grave.”
Two men, ages 47 and 51, have been arrested for the assault. No word on whose grave the woman was dumped in, but I imagine the guest of honor wasn’t pleased by what happened. Hey, at least it was empty, right? It would’ve been worse to wake up in a coffin.
