They say the brightest flame burns quickest, and no flame burned brighter for quicker than the flame of Paul, the famous octopus that predicted World Cup games. Paul shot to fame during his time at Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany, due to his incredible accuracy at picking World Cup games, nailing 100% of matches offered to him during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Paul retired from predicting, and now his journey on earth is at an end. Paul, the World Cup octopus, is dead at age 2.
“We had all naturally grown very fond of him and he will be sorely missed,” said Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll. “We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds, and erect a modest permanent shrine.” Paul’s name already graces a turtle rescue center on the Greek island of Zakynthos, which was supported by money raised by Paul.
If they wanted to give El Pulpo Paul a proper send-off, they’d dredge him in cornmeal breading and give him a burial at fryer. It’d pretty much be the most delicious funeral ever (and that’s also how I want to be buried when I die).
