Darrell Cook has a problem. He’s a lawyer in Dallas, Texas. As such, he’s a huge fan of the Texas Rangers and he’s gotten tickets for the first game of the World Series in San Francisco, when his beloved Rangers take on the San Francisco Giants. He’s also got a court case that same day. So, he did what any super-fan lawyer would do. Darrell Cook filed an emergency motion for a continuance so he can skip court to go watch a baseball game.
Cook’s document details his heartfelt love of his favorite baseball team, “a love for the Rangers that has gone generally unrequited for thirty-eight (38) years,” and goes on to apologize profusely for filing his motion at the last minute. He passed along his request only 30 minutes before the close of court, and now Cook’s weird legal documents are a viral hit amongst the legal set for their frank and hilarious nature.
“That’s tongue-in-cheek,” Cook says of the autograph request he’s gotten. “That was a friend of mine who asked for that. But I am realizing that hundreds, maybe thousands, of lawyers are reading my work, and I am worried about the quality of the work. It could have been funnier and done with greater attention to detail.”
