Declan Sullivan knew he was risking his life by doing something dangerous. The 20-year-old student at the University of Notre Dame, originally from Long Grove, Illinois, was the team’s videographer, which means that every practice, he’d climb a rickety scissor lift and video tape the team during drills. Unfortunately for the student, his Twitter jokes were prophetic, as the video tower collapsed and killed Declan Sullivan during Notre Dame football practice.
Among the comments Sullivan made on his Twitter account were: “Gust of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work… I guess I’ve lived long enough :-/” and “Holy (expletive) holy (expletive) this is terrifying.” Not long after that, the hydraulic lift he was standing on toppled over in the high winds, sending Sullivan plunging to his death in the shadows of Notre Dame’s Touchdown Jesus.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Declan’s family and friends,” said Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly. “Declan was a diligent student worker in our video department and had a tremendous personality and great sense of humor. He brightened the days for all that had the privilege to work with him, and the Notre Dame football family will dearly miss him.”
