In the south of Spain, there’s some controversy breaking out. Apparently, in the Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera, a 10-year-old girl has given birth to a baby, and now authorities are trying to decide whether or not to let the preteen and her family keep custody of the child (whose father is also a minor). The child’s sex and health status are unknown as Andalusia’s social affairs minister Michaela Navarro said officials are deciding the status of the family after the unusual family situation.
Apparently, the 10-year-old and her family are Romanian, which explains why she gave birth so young. Apparently, child pregnancies are common in Romania, especially in the region where the 10-year-old and her parents are from. It also happens to 11-year-olds in Bulgaria and 9-year-olds in China, as reported previously on this site.
Congratulations, good luck, and for your own sake, keep the baby away from windows.
