Allen and Violet Large were enjoying their simple life in Lower Truro, Nova Scotia.  Allen had retired after 30 years as a welder.  Violet is fighting off cancer, but aside from that, the couple were content with how things were.  Then, their luck turned and the elderly couple discovered they had won a $10-million-dollar Lotto 649 jackpot.  The lottery winners kept 2 percent of their winnings in a rainy day fund, and gave 98 percent of the winnings to charity.

Allen, 75, made sure to take care of the family first.  Once that was done, the lottery winnings started flowing.  He gave to churches.  He gave to cemeteries.  He gave to the Red Cross.  He gave to Lower Truro’s fire department.  He even gave money to the hospitals where Violet has been undergoing cancer treatments.  Rather than keep all the money and all the problems that go with it, Allen and Violet decided to keep things the same as they were before and got rid of the money before it could become an issue.
