There are a lot of dumb ways to get captured by the police. You can accidentally photobomb the person you’re robbing. You can accidentally call the cops and report your own crime. However, a new standard of dumb has been met, this time by Robert Rupp. Rupp, age 18, was busted by the police after leaving himself logged in on MySpace after breaking into a house. Rupp got away, but his need for social media interaction got himself arrested.
Rupp had broken into a house on Sugarloaf Key, Florida. He was spotted by the property’s caretaker, who noted that someone was in the house sitting on the couch when no one should have been at home. He called the police, who found some empty food containers, marijuana, an open back window, and Rupp’s MySpace account.
Rupp, from nearby Big Coppitt Key, told Monroe County sherrif’s deputies that he’d broken into the house because it was cold outside.
