During his four-year tenure as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Wade Phillips accomplished some great things. Just last season, the Cowboys were 12-9 and made the playoffs, though they crumbled out under the pressure of the post season. This year, the Cowboys were expected to be even better thanks to some new players and an impressive new stadium. Unfortunately, after a 1-7 start characterized by a complete lack of effort on the part of the players, Jerry Jones was forced to make a rare in-season coaching change. Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has been fired; offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has been promoted to head coach while defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni is now defensive coordinator.
Just last week, Jerry Jones said he was not going to make a coaching change in the middle of the season. However, after a 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers that embarrassed the team, Jones felt forced to make the move to the head-coach-in-waiting Garrett. Phillips was both head coach and defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, having taken over defensive play calling last year. The team has allowed nearly 1300 yards and 121 points over the last three games.
