It’s the time of year in which countries around the world remember their war veterans.  Whether you call it Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, or Veteran’s Day, today is the day in which we honor our fighting men and women for the sacrifices they have made for their countries, and for the sacrifices that are still being made in Iraq, Afghanistan, and hot spots around the world where freedom is imperiled and people are under attack.

I’m American, so to me this is Veteran’s Day, and I’m a man with a history of military service in my family.  My great-great grandfather fought in World War I with honors; my four great-uncles on my father’s side served in World War II (and two went back for Korea); my grandfather on my mother’s side served two stints in the US Navy; my uncle is a Vietnam-era veteran; and (last but not least) my cousin is currently serving in Afghanistan.  These people spend months or years away from loved ones and the comforts of home.  Honoring them is the least we can do.

So thanks, you guys, and God bless you.
