Bryan Ammeson and Scott Stoney were fishing for steelhead on the St. Joseph River when the pair landed an unusual catch and saw one of the most insane things anyone could ever see. A few feet from their boat, the pair of fishermen watched two giant bucks drown in the river while still locked in combat. When Ammeson and Stoney pulled the deer to the boat and towed them back to shore, they made a startling discovery. The two deer had accidentally gotten their horns locked together and were still stuck after death!
“They died four or five feet right in front of me,” Ammeson said. “So I ended up hooking them up to the side of the boat and we took them back to shore. We get them up, and one ended up being a 17-point with two drop tines, and another one is a perfect 10-point rack that’s just absolutely massive. Everybody that I’ve showed this to so far has said that’s one of the biggest deer they’ve ever seen.”
A third person, not in the boat with Ammeson or Stoney, confirms the story of the two bucks and how they ended up falling into the river while grappling. As for Ammeson, he’s planning on getting the carcasses processed for venison; the heads will be stuffed and mounted in mid-combat, just as they were when they were discovered.
