Attention UK readers. Make plans for April 29, 2012, because you’re going to get an extra day off of work at the end of April. In celebration of the first royal wedding in nearly 30 years, between Prince William and Kate Middleton, April 29 will become a bank holiday. The details about the upcoming royal nuptials have been released via William’s personal secretary at Clarence House, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.
The happy event will take place at Westminster Abbey, overseen by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Fortunately, there won’t be a repeat of the cursed ring incident, since Prince Charles and Diana were married at St. Paul’s Cathedral rather than Westminster. Also, let there be no doubt that the future Princess is taking an active role in planning her dream wedding (which will be paid for out of the Royal Family’s private accounts, as well as via the Middleton family’s millions).
“The venue has long associations with the royal family – it is in many ways the royal family’s church – and, of course, with Prince William personally,” said Lowther-Pinkerton. “For Miss Middleton, the associations she has with the abbey are quite simply the same as any British person would have for such a glorious and holy place. They are now getting stuck into organising their wedding. They are very much in charge of the arrangements for the big day. They’re giving us and the household office very firm direction indeed.
