I tend to forget just how brilliant Sesame Street can be, then something like this happens.  Thanks to Elmo’s omnipresence, I forget that the rest of the Sesame Street characters are actually smart and funny, but hopefully the latest viral video to emerge from the Sesame Workshop bunch will stick around in my mind so that whenever I start to think negatively about Elmo, I’ll end up thinking positively about Cookie Monster’s viral campaign to host Saturday Night Live.

That’s right, Cookie Monster is taking a page from the Betty White SNL playbook and starting a viral video campaign to get a guest-hosting gig on SNL.  He’s even taken his quest to various social networks, launching a Cookie Monster should host Saturday Night Live! Facebook group.  Internet, let’s make this happen.  Betty White’s SNL episode was highly-rated and hilarious, and I can only imagine just how crazy-good a Cookie Monster SNL would be.

Still, don’t just do it because I said so (although I’m saying so), do it because you love Cookie’s audition video.
