If you’re looking to navigate the murky waters of the shopping world, you probably need a guide. Either you have to sit down and compare prices yourself, or you can have someone else do it for you. That’s why the National Retail Foundation has set up CyberMonday.com, a website dedicated to helping consumers get the best deals during online shopping’s signature day. Falling on the Monday after Black Friday, Cyber Monday is the online version of Black Friday’s rock-bottom liquidation sales and has become increasingly important to both online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
However, like Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals go to those who are willing to sacrifice sleep and get up in the wee hours of the morning so as to ensure maximum availability of products, sizes, and styles. You don’t have to leave the house, but you do have to get out of bed (or have a laptop handy). The best plan of attack is to hit sales early and often, according to experts, because things will sell out and not all retailers will honor the purchase price on orders they can’t fill.
“Here’s the deadline I’d have in my head: before lunch hour on the east coast, when the whole world is going to be shopping and selection is going to go down,” said AOL Consumer Advisor Regina Lewis. “So you’re going to turn into things like ‘Yes, we have that item, but only in one color, and only in a couple sizes.'”
