The last interesting thing to come along in the alcoholic world was Four Loko. Infamous because of all the people it hospitalized due to mixing caffeine and alcohol (and due to abuse by college students), Four Loko faced bans until Phusion Projects changed its recipe to be a more traditional malt liquor-type drink. While that’s sad news, don’t worry; other companies have decided to fill the weird booze gap. Among these are Cream and Whipped Lightning, companies that make whipped cream topping infused with alcohol.
The flavored whipped cream of Cream (to use one as an example), teams whipped topping and a variety of flavors (chocolate, caramel, raspberry, vanilla, and cherry) with a staggeringly high alcohol content. Cream is 15 percent alcohol by volume, or roughly 30 proof (the same as most cordials).
“You definitely know that there’s alcohol in it,” said Max Pendolari, GM of the Wine Emporium in Boston. “Most bottles of wine would have the same alcoholic content. You could use it to top off your cocktail, you could use it to top off your hot chocolate.” However, keep in mind you cannot refrigerate Cream, because the cold ruins the mixture. “The alcohol separates from the cream,” said Pendolari. “You’re more apt to keep this in a liquor cabinet as opposed to your refrigerator.”
