It’s the first day of December, and already the snow is starting to mount up throughout the world. Over Thanksgiving weekend, we had a little drizzle of snow here in Kentucky, but that’s nothing compared to what they face across Europe, where heavy snow falls have forced several airports to close, including some of Europe’s biggest and busiest airports. London’s Gatwick Airport, Edinburg, Scotland’s airport, Lyon-Bron Airport in southern France, and even the airport in Geneva, Switzerland are reporting problems due to heavy snows, and the storm front shows no signs of moving on any time soon.
To make matters worse for Switzerland, today is the day that many of the dignitaries and VIPs will be flying into Geneva to make a final push to host the World Cup at FIFA’s Swiss headquarters. Geneva’s airport is so crowded they’ve had to turn down requests for diverted landings, according to airport spokeswoman Sonja Zoechling. As she told the AP, “We don’t have any free space at the moment.”
Here I thought hot summers were followed by mild winters, but I guess that’s not the case in Europe. Hopefully that’ll be the case here in the United States, because I can’t deal with another winter like last year’s Snowpocalypse winter.
