When a mask-wearing bandit entered Amigo’s Mexican Food in Deming, New Mexico, he didn’t say a word. He just walked to the counter, grabbed the entire cash register, and took off running. Unfortunately for the bandito, he underestimated the power of a little Latin American pastry called the empanada. The robber dropped the cash register when he was hit in the head by a package of empanadas thrown by Amigo’s owner.
Barbara Orquiz is the woman in question who pelted the robber with pastries. I imagine it didn’t help the crook’s get away when he realized the cash register was still plugged in, plus the surprise of Barbara’s yelling and the impact of something thrown against the back of his head would be enough to startle anyone, but especially someone who thought he was being sneaky. Apparently food is an effective way to stop a robber, whether it’s a squash, hot coffee, or a bottle of beer.
Still, a soft pastry? Must’ve been a soft criminal!
