There’s nothing more dangerous on a football field than playing special teams, especially if you are the gunner on the punt coverage team. On punts, the ball gets kicked away from one team and to the receiver on the other team, while all around the receiver bodies are flying and people are crashing together at top speed. It’s a mess, it’s crazy, and it’s generally where guys get hurt. However, guys shouldn’t have to worry about opposing coaches, just opposing players. During yesterday’s game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, Jets strength coach Sal Alosi tripped New York Jets cornerback Nolan Carroll as Carroll ran down the sideline during yesterday’s game. That’s right, a coach tripped a player on the field.
That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. Yes, the Dolphins ended up winning the game (one of the ugliest games of the year) and the Jets were and are very frustrated by recent terrible play affecting their Super Bowl chances, but there’s no excuse for a coach to interfere with a player in such an underhanded, dirty manner. Sal Alosi needs to be fined, and he needs to be fined a lot of money. If this guy doesn’t get fined $50,000 then NOBODY deserves to be fined $50,000.
