There’s just something dangerous about traveling in the icy waters of Antarctica these days. A few days ago, a passenger cruise ship was disabled. Now, a South Korean fishing boat has sank in the icy waters of the Southern Ocean near Bliss. Five of the ship’s crew are dead; 20 men have survived and are being picked up by five other boats, three Korean fishing boats and two fishing vessels from New Zealand. The vessel that sank was based in Busan, in the southern part of South Korea.
If you want to talk dangerous, you want to talk fishing. For extra danger, fish in Antarctica. The water in which the crew members were forced to evacuate into is 2 degrees. Two! If you thought the blizzard here in the US was cold, try going for a swim in this weather.
No further details are available at this time; odds are the ship struck an underwater iceberg, considering how quickly it sank.
