The coaching carousel is already starting to spin in the college football world. In the lull between the end of the college football regular season and the beginning of bowl season, the activity begins. Coaches like Dave Wannstedt get fired, and other coaches get hired. In this case, the former Temple Owls head coach Al Golden gets a serious job upgrade, moving from the least to the Big East. Al Golden is taking over the head coaching job at Miami University.
“From the beginning of this process, one candidate stood above the rest as the right fit,” said Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt. “We are proud to welcome Al Golden to The U. His desire, leadership, communications skills and preparedness stood above the rest, and he is the right man to meet the championship expectations of this program. I’ll tell you, I couldn’t be more excited to have him come and lead this proud football program. There’s nobody with more energy, excitement, enthusiasm in this country than Coach Golden.”
There’s no doubting Al Golden’s coaching prowess. He turned Temple from a 1-11 team in his first season to a 9-4 and 8-4 squad this year, achieving bowl game invitations in both years. That’s really impressive, given how little football history Temple actually has. Just imagine what he could do at a school with the reputation and money that Miami has at its disposal. Looks like a great hire for Da U.
