Malcolm Alarmo King, a 38-year-old convicted drug dealer, did not want salami in his meals. After all, he’s not a fan of salami and he was trying to maintain his figure. To get around the salami, he asked for kosher meals. Unfortuantely, officials at the Theo Lacy Jail reserve kosher meals for prisoners with legitimate religious needs, so King tried a new tactic. King and attorney Fred Thiagarajah said in court that kosher meals were necessary because inmate Malcolm Alarmo King is a practitioner of Festivus.
That’s right, Festivus, the fake religion invented on the television show Seinfeld. Not only did King try this ruse, it actually worked. For two months, King got kosher meals in line with his Festivus beliefs before the court system threw the order out. Looks like King’s going to have a brand new grievance to complain about when it’s time to gather around the Festivus pole.
