YouTube Trends has released their list of the top videos of 2010, both from major label music videos and for everybody else. It’s amazing the difference in the two. The top videos for everyone are incredibly diverse, ranging from the Double Rainbow guy (who got a commercial out of his video), the Old Spice guy (who is a commercial), and OK Go’s latest viral video sensation. On the other side of the table is Eminem, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and not much else.
It’s weird just how random the lists are. The list for everyone is incredibly diverse; the list for major label videos is pretty much nothing but the usual and expected. Are the major label offerings that weak, or are these few video folks so good they demolish everyone else?
Or, perhaps, is it both? Lady Gaga is turning out some of the most interesting music (and videos) out there; Justin Bieber is a phenomenon; Eminem has definitely turned out some great work both sonically and videography-wise. Of course, they all had millions of dollars to spend on their videos, unlike OK Go, so there’s something to be said for having money and getting results versus having no money and getting results.
