What do Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, and Darlene Love have in common? Well, basically nothing. However, there’s one trait all these acts share: they have all been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the class of 2010. It’s a very weird line-up of inductees, but I can see why all of them have made the cut for the Hall of Fame, but especially Alice Cooper and Tom Waits, two of the most influential acts in rock history.
“I’ve always felt the same way about this whole thing,” Alice Cooper, born Vincent Furnier, said in an interview with Billboard. “I kind of sat back and said, ‘It will happen eventually.’ It did get to be kind of a joke, not being nominated. “I got to the point where I was saying, ‘OK, I’m the Pete Rose of rock ‘n’ roll!’ So now that it’s a reality, it’s a different take on it. Now I sit there and go, ‘Wow. Wow! We’ve got to really get up and play, and assume the position of being in the Hall of Fame.’ It’ll be great.”
That’s going to be one weird Hall of Fame concert. I’m not sure how you can get all of these acts to share a bill without blowing everyone’s minds. Especially Tom Waits.
