Do you want to see the next generation of college football uniforms? Well, Nike and the University of Oregon have a close, personal relationship thanks to Nike founder Phil Knight’s history with the Oregon Ducks. When Nike wants to test out something for their uniform design, from new materials to new styles of padding, they test it out on the University of Oregon college football team. Hence, Nike has unveiled some space-age new uniforms for Oregon’s upcoming national championship bowl game appearance on January 10.
Boise State, Florida, and TCU will also be getting Nike-designed uniforms for their bowl game appearances. Hopefully the end results are significantly less ugly than Nike’s efforts for Oregon. Oregon is famous for their awful uniforms thanks to Nike’s decorative efforts.
However, under the hood, these new Nike Pro Combat uniforms feature all the bells and whistles you could expect from the best uniforms on the planet. The shoes, Zoom Alpha Talon Cleats, are the best cleats on the planet right now, featuring advanced technology. The Nike Pro Deflex padding has been integrated into the uniform pants, keeping hip and knee pads in place no matter what happens, and the padding has air channels and moisture-wicking technology to keep players cool and hydrated in even the hottest conditions. It’s pretty spectacular from a technology standpoint, but from an appearance standpoint? Ugh.
