When the oil-rich states of the Middle East do something, they do something full on. While most of these oil millionaires are Muslim, they know a good thing when they see it. That’s why the people at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, have gotten into the Christmas spirit in a big way. Emirates Palace Hotel is the home of the world’s most expensive Christmas tree, valued at a staggering $11 million dollars. The hotel is lobbying to get its tree in the Guinness Book of World Records as we speak.
The tree itself is impressive, a massive 43-foot-tall thing worth $10,000. The real value of the tree is in its decorations. The tree is decorated with gold, jewels, necklaces, and earrings provided by Style Gallery. The various decorations on the tree contain a staggering 181 precious stones, including diamonds, rubies, sapphires, pearls, and other gems. (Even the hotel’s lobby is gaudy, as it is decorated with gold leaf.)
The Emirates Palace’s assistant director of marketing, Hazem Harfoush, says that the gem-studded tree is “good proof that Abu Dhabi is a safe destination. We have 24/7 security, four security guards closely monitoring the space, plus security cameras.”
