Hacktivists of Operation Payback, take aim at your next target! Apple, which runs iTunes, the App Store, and generally started the App industry while policing its own apps rigorously, has acted. Apple has pulled the Wikileaks App from the App Store, though it hasn’t given a reason for why the app was pulled from the listings.
The Wikileaks App was going for $1.99 on iTunes. According to disgruntled users, the Wikileaks App takedown is not a big deal. Said user Murdock 1450, “This app is just a wrapper for the mobile website. There is no access to the actual released documents and a Twitter feed doesn’t count as up to date information.”
Well, going by what seems to be said about the Wikileaks app, it was pulled from iTunes for being a piece of junk. Then again, there are so many bad apps, how could one app attract enough attention for its generic quality to be pulled? Unless, of course, the Wikileaks notoriety is what got the app noticed in the first place.
The truth is, we won’t know why Apple pulled the app until they tell us; even then, can you really trust Apple?
