Are there problems between Google and its technology partners when it comes to Google TV? A lot of people got something Google TV-related under the tree this year, including a whole lot of the Logitech Revue thanks to Logitech’s brilliant Kevin Bacon ad. However, are there problems with Google TV? The rumor is that Google has asked Logitech to suspend manufacture of the Revue due to problems with Google TV; Google has also reportedly asked Sharp, Toshiba, and LG to delay Google TV offerings meant for the 2011 Consumer Electronics show. Is Google TV done for before it even really starts?
“Our long-term goal is to collaborate with a broad community of consumer electronics manufacturers to help drive the next-generation TV-watching experience, and we look forward to working with other partners to bring more devices to market in the coming years,” said Google spokeswoman Gina Weakley, refusing to address the rumors.
Logitech, for their part, simply pointed out that the Revue is still on sale at a variety of locations, with the Logitech Revue on sale at Amazon as we speak. However, just because they’re selling what they have doesn’t mean they’re making more. Perhaps a second release of the Revue might be in the cards, once Google works out whatever problems they have with Google TV. After all, it took Apple several tries to get Apple TV to be successful.
