When you think about people involved in politics, what do you think of?  Boring suits, giant bleached-white teeth, comb-overs, sweaty handshakes?  Well, a political party in the Czech Republic is looking to change the image of politics.  The Czech Republic’s Public Affairs party has released a sexy calendar featuring four of the party’s members of parliament, candidates currently running for other offices, and several other high-ranking governmental officials.  Sexy women in politics?  Sounds like John Edwards’ fantasies come to life!

“We want to draw attention to the fact that we have women in politics,” said 26-year-old Lenka Andrysova, seen above in a picture from the calendar.  “Women’s political influence is growing.  Why not show we are women who aren’t afraid of being sexy?” added 42-year-old Marketa Reedova, Public Affair’s candidate for mayor of Prague.

Interestingly enough, the calendar doesn’t seem to be harming Public Affairs in the political arena.  Public Affairs and fellow newcomer party Top09 are in negotiations to form the next national government for the Czech Republic.  Nor are the calendars harming the progress of women in politics; 44 women were elected to the Czech Republic’s parliament in May’s elections.  It remains to be seen how making a cheesecake calendar will affect Ms. Reedova’s chances of becoming mayor of Prague.
