I think that, by this time tomorrow, most of the readers of PopFi will need these tips. After all, New Year’s Eve is a big party night for people who aren’t ordinarily partiers, so I imagine tomorrow there are going to be a lot of foggy heads, sour stomachs, and aching bodies thanks to too much alcohol consumption. Since we know the science behind it, we can easily help fight off the hangover molecule with one secret weapon: exercise. That’s right, exercising after a night of heavy drinking helps the body recover from a hangover faster.
The way a body rids itself of the toxins from a hangover is one of four ways: sweating, via the liver, via the kidneys, and via breathing. Exercise increases breathing rate, increases sweating, and moves blood to the kidneys and liver faster, thus increasing the speed at which the toxins are filtered out of the flesh. When you add in the fact that exercise is usually accompanied by drinking lots of water, it’s a perfect cure for a night of excess (and it helps burn off those booze-based calories, too).
After the workout, I suggest bacon. Bacon is a perfect hangover food, and a perfect companion piece to any large, hangover-fighting breakfast.
