I have to own up to something: I’m having trouble following all the stories of animal deaths and unusual mass animal deaths from around the globe. There’s just so many of them dying around the world, from the 2 million dead spot fish in the Chesapeake Bay to the dead birds flopping out of the sky. You can’t sneeze without slaying a flock of pigeons it seems, so the animal deaths are coming early and often now. Fortunately, BuzzFeed has unveiled an interactive map to track stories of mass animal deaths powered by Google Maps.
How the map works is that it tracks the hot zones of animal deaths. You click on the map marker and a window pops up. You click on the link, and boom, you’re transported to the story of the weird animal mass death. It tracks everything, too, even some stories that didn’t make the news because they were about a mass death of creepy animals (like bats). This thing is fascinating; I’ve wasted at least 30 minutes on it already.
Good luck not getting pulled into the dead animal Matrix.
