When it comes to recovering a missing child, every second counts. Hence the popularity of the Amber Alert system, a missing child warning system that pushes out information about abducted children to news organizations, television stations, and even highway signs and websites all at once. In the name of protecting children, the Amber Alert network is now on Facebook, meaning that Facebook users that sign up can receive Amber Alerts for their area via their favorite social network.
“What we’re trying to do is to use the kinds of mechanisms and the kinds of tools that people are using all over the world,” said Ernie Allen, President and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The URL to sign up to receive Amber Alerts via Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/AMBERalert. You can pick and choose which state or states you receive updates from when you sign up. The Facebook Amber Alert system is available in all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
