Your horoscope is wrong. Your horoscope has been wrong since well before the dawn of the modern era, according to astrology experts (in conjunction with astrology experts). You see, the Earth wobbles a bit on its axis. The ancient Babylonians based your Zodiac sign on the position of the sun in the constellations when you were born. In the thousands of years since then, the Earth’s wobble has knocked your star sign out of alignment with the sun’s actual position. That’s why astrologers have released a more accurate 13-sign Zodiac with the new sign Ophiuchus and new dates for the 12 traditional Zodiac signs.
As is turns out, Ophiuchus was a part of the Zodiac all along, but nobody in the west knew about it because it was cut out of the traditional astrology charts by the ancient Babylonians. They wanted a 12-month Zodiac calendar, so out went Ophiuchus and the other dates got moved around to compensate. Ophiuchus has always been a part of Japanese astrology traditions, and Ophiuchus is still a legitimate constellation. Still, the discrepancy has thrown off all the star signs.
“When [astrologers] say that the sun is in Pisces, it’s really not in Pisces. Sure, we can connect harvest to the stars, but personality? No,” said Parke Kunkle, a board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society and an astronomy professor at Minnesota Community and Technical College. “Historically, people looked at the sky to understand the world around us. But today I don’t think people who are into astrology look at the sky very much.”
Here’s how the updated 13-sign astrology chart looks: Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16. Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11. Pisces: March 11-April 18. Aries:April 18-May 13. Taurus: May 13-June 21. Gemini: June 21-July 20. Cancer:July 20-Aug. 10. Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16. Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30. Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23. Scorpio: Nov. 23-29. Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17. Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.
