A woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota, headed to the counter of her local US Postal Service location with a sealed Priority Mail shipping box. The box was headed to Atlanta, Georgia. The package was put on the counter, and the woman in question left the store. Then, the box mysteriously threw itself off the counter. Curious postal workers opened the box after its suspicious behavior and discovered an unusual occupant: a four-month-old poodle-mix puppy. A woman tried to mail a puppy from Minneapolis to Atlanta in a sealed box with no food or water.
The woman in question, 39-year-old Stacey Champion, has been charged with animal cruelty. Given that mail service is conducted in non-pressurized, non-heated airplanes, if the puppy had been shipped via priority mail there’s no question that it would have died. The fact that the box had no air holes, food, or water for the pup is secondary to the fact that she TRIED TO MAIL A LIVING CREATURE. Usually dogs threaten the mail carrier, but in this case the mail carrier saved the dog.
