If you thought the 2011 car designs were weird, just wait until you see the 2011 jet designs! One of the Navy’s longest-running projects has been the Northrop Grumman X-47B, which is the next generation in aircraft in the sense that it is not limited by the weaknesses of a pilot. The Navy is celebrating their first flight of the unmanned X-47B stealth bomber. The craft took off from Edwards Air Force Base in California, soared to 5000 feet, went through a racetrack pattern, then landed again, all without the intervention of a pilot!
“Today we got a glimpse towards the future as the Navy’s first-ever tailless, jet-powered unmanned aircraft took to the skies,” said the plane’s program manager, Capt. Jaime Engdahl.
Sure, China has a new stealth fighter, but their fighter needs someone behind the wheel. America’s newly designed stealth bomber, which resembles a bat wing in shape, is completely automated. It’s the first unmanned vehicle capable of taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier! Welcome to the future, ladies and gents. We’re living it.
