Meet Hannibal Helmurto, a 39-year-old German man who works as a sword-swallower and a hypnotist. However, where most hypnotists use a watch or their hands or something standard to hypnotize people, Hannibal Helmurto hypnotizes people with his ears. Helmurto uses the giant discs in his ears to hypnotize folks, as they tend to draw a lot of attention.
“They start to focus on all sorts of shapes created by the discs in their mind and, before you know it, they’re ready. I found out straight away it was easier hypnotising people with my ears than my eyes,” said Hannibal, who is touring Great Britain as a member of the awesome-sounding Circus of Horrors. “The best people are the most intelligent as they generally have a better concentration span and don’t drift away thinking of something else. I once made a group of people walk around the stage like a train – and one guy even came round believing he was a Japanese comedian. But he couldn’t speak a word of Japanese so it was just the words he believed in his own mind were right.”
Well, at least he’s found a reasonable use for his stretched earlobes. Generally I hate that trend, but I guess in Hannibal’s case, it’s work-related, not just a stretching for fun.
