When it comes to cheap tees, Old Navy’s got it down. Every holiday season, you can ease on down to Old Navy, pick up a $5 shirt, and boom, you’re ready for your party. When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, partying generally means drinking. That said, perhaps Old Navy went a little too far for its latest line of St. Patty’s shirts. Old Navy has pulled three teeshirts from its stores after complaints that the shirts portrayed negative Irish stereotypes. Apparently, the shirts were drinking-themed and tied in to Old Navy’s usual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
“We recognize these T-shirts went too far and we sincerely apologize to the Irish community for any offense caused. We are removing all units from the stores and online as soon as physically possible,” said a spokeswoman for Gap, Old Navy’s parent company.
The offensive shirts are as follows: “Irish I was drunk,” and “Party like you’re Irish.” The “Party” shirt features a picture of Snoopy on the front, drinking from a mug labeled root beer. In spite of being Irish descent, I kind of really want that Snoopy shirt, because it sounds adorable.
