Spring is just 19 days away officially and I’m jonesing to go to a baseball game.
There’s nothing like the sound of the ump yelling “Play ball” ringing through a stadium for me.
Although I’m eager to see a game in person, minor league baseball teams are always searching for a new gimmick to put fans in the seats.
My local minor league squad has already announced a few of their upcoming summer promotions and one definitely caught my attention. The Jackson Generals, a AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners located in Jackson, Tennessee, has scheduled a Star Wars night on June 18. The players will be wearing uniforms reminiscent of the Stormtroopers from the films and actors in Star Wars costumes will be wandering around Pringles Park (yes it’s named after the potato chip which is produced in Jackson) mingling with the fans for pics during the game. The Star Wars characters have come out for Katie and now they’re coming out for baseball.
I know the Generals are hosting the Southern League All-Star Game this summer, but I’m thinking some light saber action and a Princess Leia sighting will likely top that.
Here’s hoping Chewie throws out the first pitch in Jackson too.
