Today is the day in which the NFL collective bargaining agreement runs out. That means that, if nobody budges before the start of the season, we’re not going to have football on Sundays in 2011-12. Can you face a future with no National Football League? Well, if an upstart league has its way, you’ll have some kind of professional football on Sundays this fall, but it’s not a newly-formed professional football league, it’s the Lingerie Football League. That’s right, if the NFL doesn’t play this season, the Lingerie Football League will move its games from Friday to Sunday.
What’s the Lingerie Football League, you ask? Well, it’s women in lingerie-type uniforms playing tackle football. Of course it’s not real lingerie, but it’s close enough to real lingerie for LFL purposes. In another cute gender inversion, the LFL has male cheerleaders, though they’re not as scantily clad as the female players. Apparently, the LFL is broadcast via MTV Networks’ family of channels, though I’ve never seen it on television.
Would you watch the LFL? More importantly, would you have a LFL Fantasy Football league? Is it even possible to do that with a league that nobody knows anything about? Hopefully, we don’t have to answer these questions and the NFL will return for the 2012 season. I’m not sure I can face a world without football on Sundays.
