Get a problem with pesky moles? Or are you besieged by kangaroos? Well, University of Queensland researcher Peter Murray has come up with an interesting way to scare off feral animals: scatter tiger poop around your property. That’s right, you can use tiger poo as an anti-pest scare tactic to protect your crops, roads, or backyard from pesky feral animals.
“We know there is an evolutionary relationship between the animals … and there’s a signal in the feces the animal recognizes as a predator,” said Murray, who added that the tiger poop trick was more effective if the tiger has been eating whatever animal you’re troubled by. “There’s not only a chemical signal in the feces that says ‘Hooly dooley, this is a dangerous animal’, it’s ‘Hooly dooley, this is a dangerous animal that’s been eating my friends’.”
You know, I can see this really working. I mean, tigers are tough enough to kill lions, and it doesn’t say that you have to gather your dookie from an adult tiger. If adorable baby tiger poop works just as well, then you can gather the necessary waste and not put yourself at risk for a face-mauling.
