March is the second-greatest month for sports fans, aside from October. Why, you might ask? Well, the NBA and NHL are in full swing, baseball is warming up, and of course, the NCAA Tournament brackets get announced. It’s college basketball season, and the NCAA Tournament lineup has been released for 2011. The top four seeds will sound familiar to you. They’re defending national champions Duke from the ACC, Kansas from the Big 12, Pitt from the Big East (which got 11 teams into the tournament), and the Big 10‘s Ohio State. This is Duke’s 12th time as a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
This year’s NCAA tournament expanded to 68 teams, changing the NCAA Tournament from the Big Dance into the Really Big Dance. That means your bracket, which now has many more options, will start on Tuesday but will not technically be due until Thursday as that’s when the real first round started. Make sure you fill out a bracket (the NCAA has an interactive bracket for your use) and make sure you check your television schedule (NCAA has the complete TV schedule, too).
As long as anybody who isn’t Duke wins this, I’m okay, but I’ll really be cheering on my beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats. Go Coach Cal, and go Big Blue! It’s win or go home season, baby, so let’s just win!
