There’s a certain art to pop music, and despite herself, Rebecca Black has somehow mastered this art. She was a little-known singer when she dropped her debut single in February, but somehow she’s taken off in recent days and rose to a serious level of stardom, but for all the wrong reasons. Rebecca Black’s music video is so bad it’s epic, and the world is getting wise. If you haven’t seen Rebecca Black, you’re in for a treat of sorts. Here’s the video for Rebecca Black’s hit new song “Friday.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0As it turns out, there’s a reason the song is so, ahem… simple. The star and writer of one of the biggest music videos to hit YouTube since the Insane Clown Posse sang about the magic of magnets, Rebecca Black, is actually a 13-year-old girl from Orange County, California. It all makes sense to me now.
What I still don’t get is why this video, out of all the awesome videos on YouTube, has gone viral. Why this girl? I know the song is dumb, but so are a lot of songs that are intensely popular! What made this girl lucky? Is it because the song tries so hard to be catchy? Or is it, like most things online, completely arbitrary?
